don’t ask me why i looked this up.

Sun in Libra
Your essential purpose in life is to bring balance, justice or harmony to whatever it is in your world that you regard as important. You are naturally equipped for this in that you are only too aware of the fact that there is a right and a wrong, a rough and a smooth, a pleasant and an unpleasant, etc, etc. side to every situation and person.

It is this innate awareness of the ambiguities of life that gives rise to Libra’s renowned indecisiveness. But really there is only one basic decision that you have to make. This is that you arrive consciously at a firm set of social values. This means that you have to ascertain what you think is important to society in your eyes and what you can do that will contribute to society in that respect.

Indeed, that contribution may be simply the establishing of a balanced relationship, or a balance within yourself. Anyhow, until you have begun to achieve this end, this social contribution, you will most likely vacillate between what you feel others expect of you and what you really want to do – something of which you are only partly conscious.

This in turn can lead to your being rather superficial as you use your innate sense of harmony to blend in with everything and everyone. Or, perversely, you may even be quite deliberately uncooperative as a kind of overreaction to your basic but vapid agreeability. No other Sign can draw attention to beauty and justice in such a beautiful and just way as Libra can – when you know what your pitch is.

Sagittarius Rising
You are likely to see the world constantly as your oyster. To you, life is always full of great possibilities, extraordinary experiences, and horizons to disappear over. Such an outgoing and adventurous outlook is obviously an asset for you are great at exhorting others to do more and get more out of life. You stir people up, one way or another – whether you want to or not. Some kind of philosophical or enterprising end has to be in sight so that there is an intelligent and appealing direction to justify your arousing nature. Put in another way, you have to have a product to match your advertisement. On a social level you are a good party person. In fact you are often the spirit of enjoyment itself. You excel at gathering people together for any reason, be it in the role of teacher, preacher or reveller.

seems to be all true.
i was hoping it would tell me something i didn’t know.

“Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, darüber muss man schweigen”

or

“Where (or of what) one cannot speak, one must pass over in silence.”

Tractatus_Logico-Philosophicus, Ludwig Wittgenstein

in the places where i am silent, i am soft and brittle.

that which is revealed and unobscured is real, but it is not the essence.

the weight of the unseen, the mysteries of the darkness, the places where we only sometimes go and find the truth -

the silence after a gunshot, the lack of breath, the stillness of a night alone -

often, the strongest thing you can say or do is nothing.

learning which fights to fight, which words to speak, which thoughts to corral and which to let go into the ether:

a silent struggle inside, the end of which is only the beginning.

not fade away

The truly creative mind in any field is no more than this: A human creature born abnormally, inhumanely sensitive. To them… a touch is a blow, a sound is a noise, a misfortune is a tragedy, a joy is an ecstasy, a friend is a lover, a lover is a god, and failure is death.

Pearl S. Buck, who wrote one of the best books i’ve ever read, The Good Earth

i have been finding dissonance in thinking about this state of being, which, as an overly sensitive and sentimental human i relate very much to, and in listening to some of my friends who have described their recent victories along the path of enlightenment and self-awakening, which always seems to involve an “evening out”, or steadying of the emotions when focused.  can one, then, truly be both creative and grounded?  or are creators doomed to be volatile, and therefore unable to find peace?  how many artists have gone mad?  how many people have found it difficult to find inspiration for their art once they settled down?

i have been finding myself lately in this space – caught between wanting to step back, recalibrate, adjust perspective, and re-prioritize and wanting to burn the candle at both ends, inspired by youth and mortality and afraid to lose any minute to the mundane.

the happiness i see in those who have chosen softer, even paths contradicts the brilliant fire i see in the eyes of the manic and enraged.  to be one seems to not have the other.  where is the place that offers both?

yes, i am aware.

“It may be that when we no longer know what to do we have come to our real work, and that when we no longer know which way to go we have come to our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings.”
-Wendell Berry

thx, alx. i definitely do not know what to do, or which way to go, and thus i do indeed feel on the verge of a real journey, and am totally baffled an increasing percentage of time.

life is odd right now.  i will write something soon.

“religulous”

March 31st, 2009

i know part of having “faith” is that you can’t exactly define the thing you believe in, or why it is what it is, you just believe it. but more often than not, it seems people who self-identify with a religion don’t even seem to know what they believe, or why. watch this trailer for bill maher’s documentary on religion, “Religulous“:

i haven’t seen the film yet, but i will soon.
