8/28-9/7: with a little help from my friends

September 8th, 2009

all that said, the last week+ of my life has been highly enjoyable and as everyone gets back from burning man and i see all their “i’m so tired and dusty!” comments and the photos, looking uncomfortably similar to last year’s and the year before and the years before without any of my own memories attached, i am hungover and happy and content to have done and seen and said the things we did, with friends whom i realize, sometimes, for better or for worse, i treat and love like siblings.

the workweek went as it usually does the week before labor day, quiet except for the oh-wait-its-the-the-end-of-the-fiscal-year! firedrills, and between working and sleeping we accomplished quite a lot:

–dinner parties!

fun productive photoshoots!

–indian food!

–urban wanderings!

angel island!

–cambodian food!

–hot tubbing!

–more dinner parties!

then this past weekend, on saturday morning we packed backpacks (mindfully testing the packability/utility of things to take to europe), left the car at home and walked to the train and headed into SF, which enjoys a smaller population over labor day weekend with a)tens of thousands of residents off at burning and b)the bay bridge closed to incoming tourists. proof positive: there were dozens of parking spots on mission street yesterday afternoon. we stayed at our generous friend’s house in bernal heights, complete with aforementioned deep outdoor hottub, and either walked, rode buses, or got rides from friends around the city and beyond. in 2 days:

–dolphins!

balsa man with hilarious tiny art!

–thai food!

–hot tubbing!

–hiking in the mountains!

sticks and forts!

–spirited spiritual debates!  (”The less you know, the more you believe.”–Bono)

–pizza!

–more hot tubbing!

–late night 90s movies!

–brunch!

–margaritas!

–champagne!

–massive picnics in dolores park!

–more thai food!

many thx to those who drove, txted, mapped, provided and arranged. and ohmygod we were so tired when we got home last night, jay was dead asleep before 10pm.

crazyinsanelifealteringcosmicexperiences? definitely not. pedestrian? perhaps. funtimes? certainly.  the only thing missing, besides beloved people, was dancing.  we did not do any dancing.  that needs to be remedied, and soon.

QOTD: “life is not one big joke. it is a series of tiny jokes, strung together.” @balsaman
