leftover musical notes
after a full weekend of wompwompwompwomp, i listened to stone temple pilots almost all the way home from belden town, and i’ve had their songs in my head since.
Still Remains
our bed we live, our bed we sleep
making love and I become you -
flesh is warm with naked feet
stabbing thorns and you become meat
oh, I’d beg for you, you know I’ll beg for you
she holds my hand we share a laugh,
slipping orange blossom breezes -
love is still and sweat remains
a cherished gift unselfish feeling…
oh, I’d beg for you, you know I’ll beg for you
she tells me things, I listen well
drink the wine and save the water -
skin is smooth, I steal a glance
dragon flies ‘er’ gliding over…
oh, I’ll beg for you - you know I’ll beg for you
pick a song and sing a yellow nectarine
take a bath, I’ll drink the water that you leave
if you should die before me -
ask if you can bring a friend
pick a flower, hold your breath
and drift away…
STILL SEEKING: recommendations for live hard rock and/or blues bands to see in SF. no cookie monster metal though. i need to be able to understand WTF you’re singing about.
also, i was supposed to remind the following people of the following artists:
to nagu: antony was the singer of the last song of f’kir’s set. his voice is….timeless. the first time i saw him was singing “If It Be Your Will” in the documentary about Leonard Cohen, I’m Your Man.
to benchun: mahalia jackson. i do not know why the first time i heard this woman’s voice i immediately started to cry. i’m not generally a listener of gospel, but i’d listen to this woman sing about jesus all day long. i’ve never heard another voice like this. etta james is close. summertime/motherless child + move on up a little higher.
to whom? i forget: rod stewart with jeff beck does not suck.

I have been really into STP lately too! And it is funny that you quote Still Remains, I have always liked that song. Anja and I used to listen to it over and over in her bedroom when we were about 15. I didn’t listen to them for many years but upon revisiting them lately, I think I like them even more than I used to. Purple is a great album and so is Core.
(And, anything with Rod Stewart sucks!!)
That’s like how Eric Clapton doesn’t suck when he is w. John Mayell and the Bluesbreakers. You should check them out if you haven’t.
speaking of antony, if you haven’t seen him singing “Hope There’s Someone” live on the Jools Holland show you really must (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gzu4EfwB8yU). It’s really beautiful.
You should check out the Passive Aggressives, great hard rock band from East Bay w/ stellar female vocalist. I auditioned w/ them last summer when they were looking to add a guitarist, almost wound up joining. Looks like they have a couple gigs coming up…
oops, meant to leave this link too:
