“religulous”
i know part of having “faith” is that you can’t exactly define the thing you believe in, or why it is what it is, you just believe it. but more often than not, it seems people who self-identify with a religion don’t even seem to know what they believe, or why. watch this trailer for bill maher’s documentary on religion, “Religulous“:
i haven’t seen the film yet, but i will soon.

2/26-3/25
it’s now been a month, so here some crib notes for recent doings (work and gym not included, which has also been a lot of time/energy), some of which may or may not be expounded upon later:
2/26 – transportedSF. wow. that seems like a helluv long time ago. like, i barely remember it. it was fun though!!
2/27 – went to see Port O’Brien and Ezra Furman at Cafe du Nord, except that Ezra Furman wasn’t there. which sucked. Port O’Brien was not that awesome live. we left early.
the first week of march, i went to michigan to see my family, including my new niece, for a week. omgcold!! besides adorable niece, highlight was being approached at the university gym to have a 3some with some random girl and her BF. the freaks, they are everywhere, and i attract them.
i came back to SF and went high-end window-shopping with Miss Velvet Cream.
friday the 13th we went out and did something but now i can’t remember what except that i drank too much and woke up the next day with a hangover.
3/14-3/15 we went to wine country for a friend’s 30th birthday (sonoma/russian river)
discovered antiseptic fashion during fashion show planning mtg for Alchemy. am in love.
my back spasmed on a week ago on 3/19 and i’m still recovering. learned that my new chiropractor is a way more helpful person than my family physician, and that the AMA is sort of evil. as soon as my body quits hurting/freaking out and i get some sleep, maybe i’ll blog more.
went with reagan to see a guru/mystic. had lots of subsequent thoughts about how much pressure it is to acknowledge that you do, indeed, have the all the power you need to create the life you want for yourself.
hottubed with jasonsays
scored tickets to both Nine Inch Nails/Jane’s Addiction (NIN/JA) and Phish for summer concerts @ shoreline
made some signs for Alchemy. you should come.
declared a long-awaited vacation.
approached to possibly teach a hooping class at the downtown oakland YMCA. it’s been long enough now that just might be into that again.
this weekend:
tomorrow: “Metamorphica” live art/drawing/fashion/music conglomeration soiree, with MVC and Bad Unkl Sista
weekend: friend’s birthday campout thingy somewhere in the woody peninsula, and then rendezvous with SFlovestory.

tweet jump
i’m totally guilty of twittering more than blogging these days, for a few reasons, these the most prominent:
1. i can tweet from my phone. i don’t have a PDA. i don’t want a PDA. i don’t really need to be able to read my email and blog everywhere i go. but it’s nice to be able to send out a short tweet now and then from the hills and valleys and streets and trails of my life.
2. my tweets, combined with things i share on google reader and sometimes my flickr uploads, have now become sort of crib notes for things i will probably blog about in longer detail later, which is helpful when i go to reconstruct my past thoughts and experiences for longer entries. and, if i don’t, at least there was some sort of communication about whatever it was. i guess what has happened recently is that twitter+google reader have sort of replaced blogging about external things like politics/news and small events for the time being, but i don’t see it as a total replacement for the longer, more autobiographical parts of my blog. that is just on hiatus for now because….
3. if you’re reading this via RSS feed and aren’t following me on twitter or my facebook friend, you probably don’t know that i’ve once again been suffering from problems with my right trapezius muscle, which makes the entire right side of my upper body hurt. i’ve cut back on typing, at work and not at work, so sitting down to blog hasn’t happened in a while. tweeting 140 characters is a lot less painful than blogging currently.
blogging will resume shortly. hopefully in a few days i can catch up. until then, pls refer to the shorter, hyperlinked windows into my life.

Come to the edge.
We might fall.
Come to the edge.
It’s too high!
COME TO THE EDGE!
And they came,
and he pushed,
and they flew.—Christopher Logue, poet

Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.–the Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear, in Dune
miranda’s starz
i guess i never posted these shots from the photoshoot i did last november with miranda caroligne. photos by LEC Photography. click through 2x for full versions. they’re pretty awesome.
need teleporter. quick.
i wish i would have known about the sasquatch festival memorial day weekend @ the Gorge (possibly my most favorite music venue ever) earlier. the yeah yeah yeahs, the decemberists, the kings of leon, TV on the radio, calexico, the airborne toxic event, natalie portman’s shaved head, ben harper, king kahn & the shrines, gogol bordello, santigold, ERYKAH BADU, and NINE INCH NAILS/JANES ADDICTION? all in one place? these are all bands that i really love and really want to see, plus there are 2 dozen other bands listed i’ve never heard of but given this line-up, i’m betting i would really like. srsly – this is one of the most intriguing line-ups i’ve seen for a music festival in years. indie-rock fantasticness. with the super awesome $750 VIP tickets i could be standing on the stage next to all of these artists, sipping champagne and hanging out in the VIP lounge, and i’d rather do that than spend the same amount to go to burning man.
unfortunately, before i heard about this, i committed to something else memorial day weekend. le sigh.
presale tix for the NIN/JA show @ shoreline go on sale tuesday. i’m pretty resigned to going there since it’s the only date/venue i can really swing, but i’m still not very happy about it. AT ALL.

“i understand you want to make finance entertaining, but it’s not a fucking game“.
john stewart skewers CNBC financial expert jim cramer on why particularly supposed “MEDIA” people and experts like himself let the market collapse go on without warning when they saw it coming, and possibly even supported it happening by reporting information they knew was either wrong and/or omitting key information, presumably for their won benefit.
best zing: “as carly simon would say, this song ain’t about you.”
if you haven’t watched it yet, watch it now.
btw, i’ve stopped putting money in my 401k until this shit is over.
