primitive sol
last night, after jen’s excellent book reading, we headed over to a post-playa burning man fundraiser: primitive sol. as the theme was tribal and primitive – a costume party – combined with fabulous post-21 burning man/rave culture, i was super excited. being that i looooooove dressing up as a freak, i opted to wear my latex cat-woman outfit along with similar make-up and the beaded headress (god that picture is awful) and the cape i wore on halloween. i got a lot of great compliments on the costume, but in retrospect it might not have been the best choice. when i got into the car afterward and peeled off the catsuit, it revealed a completely sweat drenched body and literally sweat-soaked undergarments. it was pretty gross.
the party filled up early with everyone in animal prints and furs and all sorts of really wonderful costumes – it was funky, the DJs were rockin’ the house and people were dancing as though it was the last time they’d ever be able to dance – including me, hence the sweatiness. Everyone was friendly and smiling -such better energy than a club – and a great time was had by all. the performance artists were amazing and definitely a highlight, and i particularly dug the women on trapeze. it was like cirque de soleil – up close and personal.
it was also a chance to hoop, which i haven’t done in a while, with vera and other bay area hoopers, AND anah and pals who drove all the way up from L.A. They were just jaw-droppingly good. i can’t even believe how amazing they are at hooping. you’d just have to see it to believe it; i can’t even describe.
more than ever now i can’t WAIT to get to get my ass to burning man next year for an entire uninterrupted week of this amazing subculture and perfectly positive energy force.
