i hope this happens once again

February 18th, 2003

ugh. i’m back. i’m tired. the vegas phish shows were so much fun and so refreshing, even with absolutely awful covers like “golden lady” and encores like “friday” that made me want to puke. but hey, no band is perfect, right? i feel like the 2000 vegas shows were a lot better. i’m sure allie will have a much more deconstructive post than mine as far as the music and setlists were concerned, since i’m really not into discussing all the finer details of the shows and what was played and all that, but the highlights for me were the Ghost – inspired by the phans in the balcony with the big “781 Days Since Last Ghost” banner – on the first night, and the Bowie, Horn and Character Zero on the 2nd night. Overall, first night was better, i think.

it was awesome to meet so many new phunky bitches and see my old friends (even though quite a number didn’t recognize me at all!!)- and have that community feeling again, hanging out in the lot and just everywhere you go – there you are – and so is everyone else. 52 hours in Vegas and i did not a spend single nickel in a slot machine or gambling and no buffets were eaten. we barely even made it to the strip – but i’m glad we made it to the Bellagio for the Chinese New Year display – can’t wait for those photos sarah! ;) and then a return to the tried-and-true Gold Coast hotel where they have 24 hour bowling, which entertained us until 5 a.m. or so … and then….. an 11 hour drive through the desert to get home because of one stupid stoplight that held up traffic for 3 hours …. and some absolutely horrid food at a mexican restaurant in the central valley where they put bacon in my beans and almost made me throw up at the table…. grrrrrr (which reminds me – there was a PETA rep dressed up like a pig in the lot with a sign around his neck that said “don’t eat Guyute” and sarah and i got our picture taken with him…heehee.

and so we’re back. it feels like it will be a long long time before that happens again, and so there is an element of sadness, but i can’t think about that now because we leave for Nepal in 10 days and i need to focus on that. eeek!

Glad it was phun for you alls. Spent the weekend out here pedalling around and looking at over priced houses and apartments.

    Whee!
I think I need a road trip to somewhere fun, and driving a moving van north from San Diego to Santa Cruz counts for maybe a third of a road trip.

I’m jealous! All I had to look forward to this weekend was traffic on 80 and city streets closed.
