People seem to be really interested in what I eat. I know I have picky eating habits and all that, but I didn’t used to. My vegetarianism and organic food preferences have evolved slowly, mostly after reading books about current agriculture practices, reading up on healthy living, and discovering for myself that you ARE what you eat.

So many of my friends and family complain about their states of being (e.g. lethargy, headaches, stomach and bowel problems, skin irritations, acne, allergies, obesity, nails, hair, mood, temperature) and yet those same people are the ones I see eating at Jack in the Box and woofing down Doritos and Cokes. Rarely do my family and friends that have what i consider “healthy” diets complain about the same physical problems as those who don’t. Isn’t this common sense?

People ask me what I eat, and seem amazed that I’m able to avoid things like Pringles and Double Cheeseburgers.

Rules I try to keep (and yes I break them – all but #1):
1. no meat of any kind (no, i don’t eat fish)
2. limited dairy, preferably organic
3. macrobiotic (whole food) ingredients also preferred. If I can’t read the label and know what it is, I don’t want to eat it. If it sounds like a chemistry experiment, I don’t want to eat it.

4. Drink more water than coffee (this is hard).

Right now I’m really into Thai food: curried vegetables, rice, peanuts, tofu. I try to avoid dairy (but I’m not a vegan) and find that on my dairy-free days I feel much lighter and better than when I indulge with the cheese. I eat rice, veggies, lots o’ fruit smoothies, bagels, Tofutti, bread, green salads, soups, lots of tofu and a couple times a week i throw cheese in there, preferably organic. I also drink a lot of soy mochas :-) For more info on what words like “Macrobiotic” and “Vegan” mean, click here for more info about “what it means to be a vegetarian”.

I understand that not everyone has the same dietary needs as I do and I never ever expect people to copy my diet. You have to make your diet your own. Why do I sound like an infomercial? All I know is that I feel better now that I’m off the $.99 Whopper diet that I had in college. So for those of you who keep asking “what do you eat then?”, there you go.

Ok, so it’s been like a year since I had this page updated and linked to my main site. For a while I didn’t want to be one of those girls with a webpage that was just all about “myself” and “who i am” and “what i like”. However, I find now that I like to read those kinds of pages. So, for those of you So, for those of you who have been bored to tears with my “activist” side of me ( i am a libra – don’t forget – i have many sides, trying to balance themselves at all times…) I think that I might begin incorporating a bit more “pop” into my site. Will that make you wiggle?

Going vegetarian and then vegan was one of the best decisions of my life. I still weigh about what I did in highschool. I have none of the cardiovascular disease that seems to run in my family. I’m the only one in my family that doesn’t wear glasses.

When I read about the horrible things that happen to animals in food production I feel good knowing that I don’t contribute to it or the massive amount of pollution it makes.

Good first blog post! Happy anniversary!
